An Associate Professor at High North Center at Nord University Business School. He is also affiliated with The Arctic Institute, the Wilson Center, and Oslo New University College.

Østhagen is the author of Norway’s Arctic Policy: Geopolitics, Security and Identity (2023), Ocean Geopolitics (2022), and Coast Guards and Ocean Politics in the Arctic (2020).
